By the time I got to The French Bakery, my hands (and my stomach) were already full with chocolates and ice cream accumulated from Pave and Coccogelo. But the lady owner was so warm and friendly, she offered me samples of pecan pie, their signature chocolate fudge cake and brownies.
Of the three items, my favourite was the Pecan Pie ($3). It was simply divine! The crust was soft and thin, just sufficient to hold the honey filling and crunchy pecans topping. It has made its way to my list of comfort food. Would imagine it to be so awesome with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. I will be back for this!
Chocolate fudge cake is good (much better than another famous shop across the road) if you want a simple and light cake. Brownies were a tad cold as it was kept in the refrigerator, as a result, I could not really taste the texture, but made it out to be between fudgey and cakie.
Felt bad if I left the shop empty handed, so decided to takeaway the Rum Balls ($1.80 each).
The Rum Balls were filled with rum soaked raisins and finely chopped walnuts, coated with chocolate rice and spinkled with icing sugar. Texture was smooth, not crumbly. Tasted robust and cohesive!
Their christmas offering looks very promising! With a choice of four mousse based log cakes, traditional fruit cake, cookies, gingerbread and pastries.... But the most interesting of all is the Hamlet - rolled smoked ham in pig bread.
